How to acquire and use a custom map file

openstreetmap distributes one of the file formats supported by demo 1, the data is crowd sourced so the quality may vary depending on location.

OSM maps can easily be downloaded from their webpage www.openstreetmap.org

when on the page press the export button in the top left corner of the page to open the export options window




select a desired aria by typing in the coordinates or by manually selecting a aria




once an aria is selected pres the Export button in the options window to download the data file




if the are you selected exceeds a certain size the system will instruct you to download the data from a mirror service by selecting one in the list below




after the download is complete you be will be able to find the map file in your computer's default download folder, however the file may be missing its file extension to fix this simply rename the file and end the name with ".osm"
